Battle of the Bulge
The Battle of the Bulge was a very important battle in World War II. Why? It was important because it could be seen as the Axis powers' last attempt to make the war go the way they wanted and to be in their favor. The Allies were closing in on the Axis Powers and the fighting started during the fall in 1944, and the war was finally drawing to a close.
The Battle of the Bulge got its name from how the Axis Powers managed to push Allied lines back in certain places and on a map it looked a a bulge in the war lines. One major site that could make or break the Allies during the Battle of the Bulge was when the fighting was focused in the city of Bastogne. The Allies had to keep this city or else they would begin to lose this battle against the Germans and lose the ground they had just taken back, which would make the war go on longer and give the Axis Powers some of their lost power back. This thought of win or lose the war for the Allied soldiers that were already in Bastogne drove them to fight strongly and with the help from General Patton and his troops they kept the city.
The Allies had won this battle for Bastogne, which gave them the push they needed to push back the bulge the German forces had created in January of 1945. The Germans were being pushed back and were weakening with every casualty they suffered. The Battle of the Bulge served as yet another victory for the Allies and one step closer to winning World War II.
