Dropping of the Atomic Bombs
The Japanese were a strong willed people who would rather die for their country and die with dishonor and surrender. Surrender wasn't an option for them so despite the fact that they knew they were losing the fight against the Americans and the Allies they wouldn't go down without a fight. Because they wouldn't let up on the fighting, the Allies decided something needed to be done in order to put an end to the tremendous losses that had been suffering from fighting the Japanese and to finally put an end to World War II. The answer to this problem came from what would be known as the Manhattan Project, which produced the atomic bomb.
The atomic bomb was a very powerful weapon and it was definitely debated whether it should be used on Japan, but after discussing it for a while the Americans decided to drop the bombs on Japan. The two cities that the bombs were dropped on were Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Japanese were given one more chance to surrender, but of course it was denied and the bombs were now a sure decision.
The atomic bomb landed on Hiroshima on August 5, 1945 and was dropped by a plane called the Enola Gay. The second atomic bomb landed on Nagasaki on August 9, a few days after the bombing of Hiroshima. Both cities suffered major damage and the bombs causes thousands upon thousands of casualties and injuries. The losses were finally too much for the Japanese government who finally surrendered on August 15, 1945. World War II was now finally over and the Allies had won, and the Americans had finally avenged their fallen brothers and sisters from Pearl Harbor.
