Douglas MacArthur
Douglas MacArthur was born in Little Rock, Arkansas on an army reservation in 1880. MacArthur was an important general that helped America get revenge on Japan after they had attacked Pearl Harbor. In the eyes of many he was an American war hero and he seemed to embody the fighting spirit that the American had envisioned the soldiers had while they were overseas.
MacArthur's military career started with his successful graduation from West Point in New York. His success at West Point brought him many good promotions and opportunities in later years at the same school. He was made superintendent and later Chief of Staff, which at age 50, meant that he was very decorated for his age. He was then the youngest full general in history. With great military background, it was almost a given that MacArthur would have an influential part in World War II.
General MacArthur was important to World War II because he was the man who led the fighting in the fight against the Japanese. Him and his men may have not had a successful battle when they were near the Bataan peninsula, which was located in the Philippines, but it did in a way help the Allies. The brave fighting that MacArthur and his men did gave the Allies time. This valuable time helped the Americans and the Allies decide how they would handle the strong, advancing Japanese forces in a way that would be the most beneficial for them and end in an Ally victory.
